It was totally Thomas's fault that happened. He was after knocking me off mine. And he can bet I'll pound him later if he so much as looks crosswise at me.


I think maybe that one examiner--the nicer one--was looking when it happened, so they probably know it wasn't your fault you crashed. And don't worry. You did the first part of the sequence just fine.

Not sure. There was loads of blood, but he could walk. Not straight, exactly. But he did walk on his own.

Thomas cut him off during the flying exercises. I'm pretty sure he was trying to get in my way, but he got in Nev's instead. We weren't that high, and I didn't really see what happened, but Nev ended up crashing. I heard that part.

And you're right. I've been thinking about it a lot, the way he's been acting. How Terry Boot's back in the camps now, but he's still here and trying to get Nev cut from YPL. Which could be really bad for Nev.

Or if they cared. They seem to like to see us turn on each other. Most of the stuff has been about who can be most cold-blooded. And fine, y'know. I can fight better than most. Got brothers who taught me that, yeah?

He said there was something going on tomorrow in the testing, that he absolutely had to get out of it.

So he asked for the potion we gave him to miss that lesson last time. The one that makes you spew. We didn't have any left, and so we suggested that he could either fake an injury or pick a fight to get out of it. And we said he wasn't exactly the fight-picking type.

Bloody hell. So did he decide on giving himself a real injury instead?
